Practicing Self-Care at Fly Freak

Self-care is so important for your physical and emotional wellbeing. Fly Freak Studio is here to help support you in your self-care journey.

Life can be freaking hard. We currently live in a society where the cost of living continues to rise and wages frequently do not, and where capitalism and white supremacy value our productivity over our health and wellbeing. And we recognize these effects are exacerbated for our queer, gender non-conforming, and BIPOC students.

When life is challenging, self-care is usually one of the first things to go. We tend to prioritize deadlines, chores, and caring for others over ourselves. But when we don’t take care our ourselves – physically and emotionally – everything around us can suffer as well. It inhibits our own wellbeing, as well as our ability to show up for others.

While self-care is a luxury for many, we hope you’ll take time to prioritize yourself whenever possible. Here are a few ways Fly Freak can help support you while you care for yourself:

Movement
One way to practice self-care is through movement. All movement, whether through yoga, a full-body workout, aerial arts, or dance, has amazing benefits for the body and mind. It offers a chance for us to be present in and feel connected to our body, which can help us feel more grounded. Exercise also releases endorphins that help improve mood and alleviate day-to-day stress.

Whether you’re looking for a high energy class or an opportunity to slow down and stretch, we have a wide variety of classes to meet your need. We especially love Aerial Yoga, Vinyasa Yoga, Chair Yoga, and Restorative Yoga for practicing light meditation and grounding down in your body. Every move in every class is always optional.

Community
Self-care can absolutely be done with others! Social connection can help us feel physically and emotionally safe and recharge our batteries.

Group fitness classes are a great way to meet people with similar interests and goals. Our students and instructors are welcoming and supportive. They will celebrate your accomplishments with you and cheer you when you need it most.

Play
Play is an important, and often overlooked, way to honor yourself. Finding joy in learning new skills or in creating can help us connect with our inner child and reduce stress.

Aerial arts are a great way to practice play. They offer opportunities to move your body in new ways and create fun shapes. We also love our Chair Dance class format – dance is such a great way to find joy in your body.

However and wherever you choose to practice self-care, we want to thank you for taking time for you! Your time and energy are so appreciated.
